The month of June 2013 concluded my school year at Syringa Elementary in
Pocatello, Idaho. It’s hard to believe I have already taught at Syringa for 3 years now! When
I graduated from Idaho State University in 2009 and accepted a
teaching position with Syringa I had no idea what blessings and challenges
awaited me there. Through this season the Lord has given me invaluable
experience, precious friends and dozens of simply amazing students that will
forever be in my heart.
I have loved my time teaching public school in Pocatello and will
always treasure this season. However, in this past year I have felt a stirring
to once again pursue overseas ministry. Before completing my college education
I served in various locations through Youth With A Mission. During my time with
YWAM God birthed within me a heart and a passion to declare who He is among the
nations. After returning from YWAM, I
chose to study elementary education with the intent to one day teach overseas
and proclaim the love of Christ to children and their families.
Upon graduation I attended an education job fair at ISU. Network
of International Christian Schools (NICS) was among the many schools
represented there. Though I knew God was calling me to teach in Pocatello for a
season, my heart leapt as I spoke to the NICS recruiter and learned of their
ministry through education among the nations.
In faith I tucked NICS into the “maybe someday” file of my heart. As it
turns out, “maybe someday” is now! Through a series of God ordained emails,
conversations, interviews and much prayer I have accepted a 5th
grade teaching position at Highlands International School in La Paz, Bolivia.
